ESPNHS is currently doing an interesting series comparing top high school players to their college or professional doubles.
Yesterday they did a profile on point guard Andrew Harrison. Harrison is one of the top recruits in 2013 and a high priority in Kentucky’s recruiting efforts, along with his twin brother, Aaron.
The guys over at ESPN compare Harrison to Deron Williams because of his “offensive creativity and ability to facilitate for others as a true point guard.”
Harrison himself, though, prefers the comparison to former Calipari protégé and current Sacramento King, Tyreke Evans.
“I get the Deron Williams stuff because we can both come off of picks and pull up for threes,” says Harrison. “But I first started hearing the Evans comparison in the ninth grade. I think he was still in college. I was honored to be compared to him.”
The 6’5″ guard from Fort Bend, Texas says that he would prefer to build his own brand, but he still sees a lot of similarities between himself and Evans.
“We’re both big guards and we can take smaller guards off the dribble,” said Harrison. “Not just with power, but speed and using the dribble.”
If Harrison truly believes that his game most closely matches Evans, it would only make sense to play for the same coach who helped him become a star at Memphis. Once again, advantage: Kentucky.
