Alabama Running Back to Walk-On at Kentucky

Kentucky has invited 5-8, 175-pound running back Terrance Timmons to join the UK football program as a walk-on.

Timmons rushed for more than 2,000 yards as a senior in 2010, but had no college offers.

But on Wednesday, Timmons sat alongside three teammates and formalized his plan to play at Kentucky. The 5-foot-8, 175-pound Timmons accepted an academic scholarship to UK — so he’s technically not part of the Wildcats’ recruiting class — but he is slated to report in June as an invited walk-on as part of the 105-man varsity squad.

“Kentucky, they took a chance on me,” Timmons said.

Most recruiters questioned Timmons’ size, but he turned heads by running for more than 2,000 yards and scoring 29 touchdowns as a senior. Davidson coach Fred Riley said Kentucky coaches project Timmons as a runner, receiver and kick returner in the mold of Derrick Locke, who played in last week’s Under Armour Senior Bowl.
