Brian Adams, who has been working with both the UK football and baseball teams, has decided to quit football to focus solely on baseball.

An outfielder, Adams has a .250 batting average this season, with one home run and seven runs batted in. Last season as a sophomore football player, Adams was a substitute wide receiver. He caught five passes for 46 yards, and was listed number two on the depth chart before Kentucky’s spring football practice. Adams did not participate in spring football drills because of his baseball commitment.

In a prepared statement released yesterday, Adams thanked the coaching staffs of both programs. “At this point in my career and after talking with Coach Phillips and Coach Henderson, and spending time praying about it with my family, it is time for me to focus on baseball. The University of Kentucky has provided me has been a once-in-a-lifetime chance and I am proud to be a Wildcat,” he said.

Adams is eligible for Major League Baseball’s amateur draft next month.
