APR: Is it OK to be Smug Now?

Kentucky has been the brunt of pot-shots over athlete’s grades ever since John Calipari took over the program, and I think they answered back the only respectable way: they achieved a higher-than-average APR (Academic Performance Rating).

But a few days ago it was released that Louisville’s football team lost 3 scholarships due to a poor APR, and today I see that the “National Champion” UConn Husky basketball program has lost 2 scholarships due to a poor APR.

Can we as fans be smug now that our team has been shown to be top-notch athletically AND academically? I think so. I’m sure the news about Louisville and UConn will receive an article or two and then die down – unlike the prominent place it would have taken in NCAA history had it been at Kentucky. Still, I think Pat Forde and Bobby Knight may have just spontaneously combusted out of frustration.
