A’dia Mathies Steals the Show as Kentucky Beats Tennessee

A’dia Mathies capped off a career night as she hit a runner in the lane with 4.2 seconds on the clock as Kentucky pulled out a 61-60 win over #6 Tennessee in Memorial Coliseum.

Tennessee had no answer for Mathies as she finished with a career high 34 points, 11-20 from the field, 10-11 from the free throw line, and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead Kentucky to their first 4-0 conference start in school history.

Mathies hit shot after shot, one being a desperation 4 point play as the shot clock was expiring, but Tennessee didn’t go away easily.

Glory Johnson, reigning SEC player of the year, had 17 points and seemed unstoppable in the second half and her frontcourt partner Vicki Baugh(16 points) led the charge to eventually take the lead at the end after being down 12 at one point.

Keyla Snowden also played a huge part in the outcome, scoring 7 straight in one stretch, finished with 11 points.

The win for Kentucky is program changing and should move A’dia Mathies to the top of the Player of the Year race and a 1st team All American.

Kentucky has no time to celebrate as they travel to South Carolina this Sunday for a 3pm tipoff.
