A Tale of Two Games for Kentucky Softball

The first game today for Kentucky Softball was fun.

The second game wasn’t.

After losing the first game of the NCAA Super Regionals yesterday, Kentucky’s coach Rachel Lawson made some nice adjustments at the plate as her Wildcats pounded out 10 hits and scored 8 runs, beating up on Cal 8-0.

Megan Aull led the charge knocking in 3 runs with a single in the bottom of the 1st and Kentucky never looked back after totaling 5 in the first 2 innings.

Rachel Riley did her part on the mound as she shut down the Cal offense, holding them to 0 runs on 5 hits.

The second game, as I said earlier, wasn’t fun at all.

Chanda Bell, who lost yesterday’s game 1-0, gave up 4 runs in the 1st inning, and that is all Cal really needed going on to win 9-0 and advance to the College World Series.

Jolene Henderson, the Pac 10 pitcher of the year, shrugged off getting drilled earlier in the day to shut down the Kentucky offense to 0 runs and only surrendering 3 hits.

Cal will play Alabama in the College World Series which starts Tuesday.

Kentucky has nothing to be ashamed of as they complete the best season in school history. They are the first team to win 40 games while making it to the Super Regionals for the first time in school history.

I had the pleasure of attending the two day event and Kentucky fans and the Athletics Department deserve high praise for a great atmosphere and well run tournament.

Congratulations UK Softball and Rachel Lawson, you have made the Big Blue Nation notice how competitive and how fun softball can be.

It just isn’t anywhere you can see UK athletes doing this before their games.
