Kentucky RHP Alex Meyer went #23 overall to the Washington Nationals just as expected last night. Rivals has a good story this morning about the Washington-Kentucky connection, Meyer being the third UK student drafted by a Washington team in the past 12 months (the others being John Wall to the Wizards and Victoria Dunlap to the Mystics).
The second round of the MLB draft begins today, and there are still a couple of Bat Cats who could go this year. RHP/INF Braden Kapteyn and 3B Thomas McCarthy are both high-performing Juniors who are eligible to go should their number be called. Also, Kentucky could lose a 2011 recruit or two. Unlike basketball, baseball players can still go pro right out of high school. We’ll keep you informed.
