Neiko Johnson to Valley Cats

The story of Bat Cat Neiko Johnson is a feel-good story if ever there was one. Johnson is a hard worker with a great attitude who never quits. Having finished his senior year and expended his eligibility at Kentucky, fans were hoping he would get drafted this year, but it wasn’t meant to be. Following 50 rounds and not seeing his name called, Johnson vowed to try his luck at free agency.

Neiko put in the miles to visit with interested teams, and it wasn’t long before one of them took notice. This past Sunday the Houston Astros decided they liked what they saw and offered a contract. Success! But which level would Johnson play for? Houston is the parent organization for the Lexington Legends, and no former Cat has ever played for the hometown team. Would Neiko be the first?

Late last night, Neiko announced that he would be playing for the Tri-City Valley Cats in New York (www.tcvalleycats.com for more information). Thus begins the next phase of his career, and another Kentucky alum living the dream.

Congratulations Neiko.
