It was announced today that associate head coach for Kentucky golf, David Trainor, has been named the new coach for the Akron Zipps.
Brian Craig, who is the UK head coach, had to say this about Trainor’s departure (source):
I am very happy for David, his wife, Landon, and their son, Will, for this great opportunity. David has been a vital part of this program for the past seven years and he will be sorely missed by all, not only as a coach, but as a good friend. He has the skills, the passion and the leadership to help the University of Akron do great things. The Akron men’s golf program is getting a great coach and a fantastic person.
Trainor was the assistant head coach for five years before being promoted to associate head coach in 2009.
In seven seasons with Kentucky, Trainor was a part of two top-eight finishes at the NCAA Championships–finishing seventh in 2005 and fifth in 2006, a 2005 Southeastern Conference championship, three top-six finishes at the SEC Championships.
Trainor will officially take over the Akron program on July 5.
