LEXINGTON, Ky. – UK women’s soccer senior captain Jenna Goblirsch suffered an injury to her right knee in practice on Thursday, UK head coach Jon Lipsitz announced.

“Losing Jenna is a huge blow to the team,” Lipsitz said. “We are talking about a senior captain, the organizer of our back line, the stickler on details during the match, and a tremendously positive person on and off the field.

“I am heartbroken for Jenna,” Lipsitz continued. “She has worked so hard to prepare for a great senior season; you could tell by the smile on her face as we began training, how excited she was to get started. I am just flat out going to miss coaching her.”

Surgery is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 11.

There is no timetable on her return.
