Kentucky vs. Tennessee 11-28-2009

This is, without a doubt, the biggest game of the year for Rich Brooks and the Kentucky Wildcats. If they win it could prove to be the biggest game in 24 years. The Tennessee Volunteers (6-5, 3-4 SEC) travel to Lexington, KY to face the Kentucky Wildcats (7-4, 3-4 SEC) on Saturday at 7:00pm. Not only will the Wildcats recognize 27 seniors before the start of the game, they recognize that beating the Vols for the first time in 24 years will make them local heroes. The Cats are already bowl eligible but a win tomorrow could seal their spot in the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day.

Randall Cobb is Batman and Derek Locke his trusty side-kick Robin. These two have led UK to a 20th ranking in the nation for run offense with 196 yards per game. The dynamic duo has also combined for 14 touchdowns. It’s not the offense that needs the focus, it’s Kentucky’s defense that will have to keep up the intensity in this game. The Tennessee Vols rank 56th in overall offense and that very well could be the difference if there is a defensive breakdown. Holding a half-full glass, it’s been the play of the Cats defense that has kept them on their current 3 game win streak. In the second half of last weeks game the Wildcats defense came to life and made several plays against Georgia’s quarterback Joe Cox. For Kentucky to walk away with the “W” in this game, the defensive line is going to have to come into Commonwealth Stadium with the same intensity and bring the heat on Lane Kiffins’ Vols.

Rick Brooks in encouraging folks to Commonwealth to honor the seniors. “I would like to see our fans in there early enough to honor this senior class,” Coach Brooks said. “I know that the game-day activities are part of the experience and part of the fun in the parking lot, but hopefully they can do that all day long and get in there early enough to honor this senior class.”
