Football, Wind and Tailgates – Blue vs. White Spring Football Game

The weather put an end to UK Football’s spring game in the second half (but that didn’t stop us from getting a few hours of tailgating in). The Offense defeated the Defense by a score of 60-25 in a game where everyone would just have to accept the score or have a masters degree from MIT to figure it out. We also took a “podcast test drive” and learned a lot.
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]We met this morning with the idea we would just hangout and enjoy the opportunity to tailgate in April. We’ve also been kicking around the idea of doing a weekly podcast and figured this was the perfect opportunity to start working out the bugs. After all, if we start now, hopefully it will be bearable for our listeners/readers by the time football season rolls around.
What we talked about? Blue and White Game Preview, Weather and the 2011 schedule.
What did we learn? The WIND IS LOUD!! and park away from traffic next time!

Yeah, we’re definitely not professionals, but we had a great time. Next time, if we at least spend five minutes organizing our thoughts prior, we might actually be OK. The wind was absolutely beating on us the entire morning and the random drive buys had a way of really breaking the moment.

If you do try to listen, just hang in there till the 11:20 mark. That’s when I realize that we’re recording all the wind and I pull the plug on microphone #2 (that was the “windy mic”). If it get’s unbearable, just manually move the player to the 11:20 mark.

I’d also like to thank andrea1994barney for showing up to say hi! We also put her through the ringer as she let us practice our interview skills. I’ll post the interview later this week. That could be a start of a whole new category for NofB member interviews.

So here’s our first take (we’ll get the wind out of the next one). We know it’s not the best but we had a great time doing it.

We intended to hook back up after the game and do a post game wrap but the weather just wasn’t cooperating.

So here’s my rundown….

QBs – I don’t think anyone really showed that they should be the starter. I really liked what I saw out of Morgan Newton. Unfortunately, he turned the ball over.. You know what they say it takes 20 good deeds to fix 1 screw up…. Just ask Mike Hartline about that one 😉

Running Backs – Donald Russell can run!! This guy was really turning it on. I look forward to seeing him play in the fall.

Receivers – Seems like they continue to get better. They are actually going for balls now and if everyone works hard in the off season, we may actually get some plays down field this year.

Defense – Hmmm…I’m a little concerned. I’m just not sure (or just haven’t seen) what our strength is going to be. Example:..Donald Russell did a great job running the ball; so does that mean he’s a great running back or is our run defense really that bad? I have a feeling the answer is somewhere in the middle.

Here are some highlights from what Joker had to say…

Defense – “We expect Danny Travathan to be a leader”. The defense must also learn how to get themselves off the field.

QBs – All of them made plays with their feet

Running Backs – Donald Russell continues to make a case for himself

Offensive Line – Must be better protectors

Receivers – They are starting to make plays now.
