Kentucky Wildcats Tuesday Football Practice

The Kentucky Wildcats and coach Joker Phillips took to the field on Tuesday to begin preparations for the Western Kentucky game on Saturday at 7:30pm in Lexington. Joker says that he is pleased with the teams effort, energy and enthusiasm. Although the Hilltoppers aren’t expected to put up much of a challenge for the Wildcats, they can’t look past any opponent and have to keep getting better.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

“It was really upbeat and we had a physical practice,” Phillips said. “We introduced some different things on Tuesday and we have to be better as far as understanding our assignments and the new looks that we are going to see every Tuesday. Every week you are going to see different looks, we just have to be more in tuned with that.”

Coach Phillips and every Wildcat fan in BBN knows a couple of key areas the team needs to improve on. Penalties and Special Forces. The kickers missed out of 4 UK points while the team combined for 11 penalties totaling 90 yards. That was compared to 4-30 for the Cardinals.

Seems as if Joker is most impressed right now not with the great play of Mike Hartline, Derrick Locke or Randall Cobb, but junior WR Matt Roark.

“He made a couple of plays that will hopefully help his confidence,” Phillips said. “Same with special teams, he made some plays on special teams Saturday and he was inconsistent on special teams (in preseason practice). I guess you can call him what many say is a ‘gamer’ but we want to see it out here (on the practice field).”
