Last night was the biggest comeback win in the John Calipari era and Kentucky’s biggest since 1997.
The Wildcats overcame a 19-point first half deficit last night to defeat Vanderbilt 73-67.
Here are some notes on the comeback win:
– Kentucky’s rally from 19 points down is the biggest comeback win in the Calipari era and its largest comeback since rallying from 22 points down on Feb. 22, 1997 at – coincidentally – Vanderbilt. UK won that game 82-79.
– In the game in 1997, Vanderbilt led 40-18 with 3:51 remaining in the first half. UK also fell behind by 14 points in the second half of that game, nearly mirroring the 13-point second-half deficit UK faced Tuesday night.
– The previous largest deficit in the Calipari era was 18 points vs. Miami (Ohio), 36-18, with 7:04 left in the first half on Nov. 16, 2009. UK stormed back to win 72-70. It marked just the second game in Calipari’s UK coaching tenure.
