Cobb And The Heisman

Randall Cobb is the “the best all-around player in the league (SEC),”according to Chris Low of ESPN and I couldn’t agree more. But is Randall Cobb good enough to win the Heisman Trophy? If he is, he would be the first from UK to claim College Football’s most coveted individual award.

The Heisman Trophy is supposed to be awarded to “The outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.” Reality is that may not always happen.

ESPN’s Chris Low points out that very fact in his latest SEC Heisman Update when he states the following:
It’s hard to imagine the Wildcats winning enough games for Cobb to be a real factor in the race. But anybody who’s already scored touchdowns four different ways ought to be a candidate.
The key statement is “winning enough games”.

For Randall to seriously be considered, the Cats are going to need at least an 8-4 or 9-3 record. A goal that can be accomplished. Winning as a team does matter when it comes to selecting the winner. Mark Ingram, Sam Bradford, Tim Tebow, Troy Smith, Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart, the last six winners and all names from teams finishing towards the top, if not at the top, of the final polls.

As of the most recent Heisman Predictor, Ryan Mallett of Arkansas is the front runner for the Heisman and Cobb isn’t even in the Top 10. But don’t count Randall and his chances out yet. Just last week, Mallett wasn’t in the Top 10 either and now he’s the front runner.

For the meantime, enjoy the amazing play of the best all around player in the SEC, Kentucky’s Mr Everything…

Go Cats!!!
