How Are The Cats Stacking Up For 2011

ESPN recently rated Kentucky as having the 25th best recruiting class for the 2011 year. Rivals.com just updated their Class of 2011 Football Recruiting rankings.

In a recent article, Nation of Blue discussed what it will take for UK and Coach Phillips to become consistent contenders for the SEC East. We looked at the last several years of recruiting classes from the schools in the SEC East and compared those rankings to how each team finished in the East.

The results were simple…the top class finished on Top… Talent Wins Out – Every Time!!! Well, that’s not a 100% true statement, but in just about every case, the recruiting rankings matched the final rankings in the SEC East.

Rivals scores, each team on a point scale. UK has not topped 1,000 points in any year during our recent study. To do so with the 2011 Class, would be a major victory for Coach Phillips. Class scoring has improved, of late, under Brooks including the 2009 class which scored 958 points, leaving the Cats with the 41st best overall class.

With Rivals latest rankings, the Cats are currently at #29 overall with 599 combined points. UK has 18 total commitments, 0 five star, 1 four star and 15 three star recruits.

Overall, UK is currently ranked 10th in the SEC with only Tennessee and Vanderbilt below the Big Blue. It’s still early and we have to believe that Joker has made some major strides in recruiting in roads.

It still appears that the best we could hope for is for Coach Phillips and staff to top the 1,000 point mark and move up the SEC East scale. Moving from 5th to 4th would be a major accomplishment and one that right now, looks promising.

Go Cats!!!
