The Kentucky Wildcats can beat the Ole Miss Rebels. They have to prepare hard, play well and more importantly believe they can win. The Coaching staff has to believe they can win and provide them with the play calling needed to score points. On Tuesday, the Wildcats practiced for the Rebels and Coach Phillips seemed pleased overall with the workout.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
“We had a good day,” Phillips said. “It was an upbeat practice and physical practice. Again, we have to get better at practicing when we are not practicing together – offense vs. defense. When we go to scouts we have to have more focus and push the scouts and we can’t bring our level of play down to the scouts.”
The Wildcats took a blow with the loss against Florida. The offense couldn’t do much with the ball, only getting ignited from a trick play that led to 6 points. The defense couldn’t do much to stop the movement by Florida who scored 48 points including 6 touchdowns by a single player.
“We did some full-speed stuff where we are asking our kids to put their face on people,” Phillips said. “We didn’t do any tackling to the ground because we were on the turf today and we didn’t want anybody to get hurt on the turf.”
The loss to Florida has fans asking questions about the possibilities of the season. Can they go 8-4? Will 6-6 be the best the Wildcats can get? Some are more optimistic than others, but one thing both sides agree on is that it’s going to take more offensive movement, better play calling and physical play.
“You have to get some guys to the game also,” Phillips said. “We have some guys that have some bumps and bruises that don’t allow you to tackle. If you are going to tackle, you would like to tackle on your first workday and today was our first workday. But with all our bumps and bruises we just asked our kids to get their feet and face in the proper position.”
Nation of Blue will be hosting a live open chat to go along with a live stream (hopefully) of the game. Be sure to tune in on Saturday at 12:00pm for the game which is set to kickoff at 12:21pm on the SEC Sports Network.
