Auburn At Kentucky: Keep the Faith

Two SEC games, two common threads. “Our defense stunk and our offense is too predictable… Bad combo!!!”

After a 3-0 start, expectations ran high at Kentucky, but those expectations came to a screeching halt against Florida and then was heightened with the result of the Ole Miss game.

Well, Don’t give up Hope yet Cat fans…

Going into the Auburn game last year, the Cats were coming off of a three game losing streak where they got embarrassed by Florida 41-7, lost to Alabama 38-20 and was stubbed by Spurrier again, 28-26…

At 2-3, Coach Brooks took a Kentucky team into Jordan-Hare Stadium to face a 5-1 Auburn team, in what most considered a “must win” situation.

Here we stand again, two defeats in a row. One that most expected to lose against Florida and one that we should have won against Ole Miss…

This is the turn around game. It happened last year so why not this year?

After the 2-3 start in 2009, the Cats ended the season winning five of their last seven games, including beating Georgia between the hedges. Auburn was the turning point and for the Cats to have the season they want, it will have to be the turning point again.

The upcoming three game home stand will define the season. Win all three and the Cats are right at the top of the SEC East, lose all three and basketball won’t get here fast enough for the fans or for the Kentucky football team.

Last year the defense stepped up and held Auburn to 315 yards of total offense. For the Cats to win at Lexington, the defense will once again be the key. Our offense will score, just like they did at Ole Miss, but the D will have to limit the effectiveness of the number 8 rushing team in the nation.

Kentucky gave the fans a glimmer of hope last season when they took one from Auburn. A win this year against the top 10 Tigers would be even a bigger accomplishment.

Cobb put the offense on his shoulders in the game winning drive in 2009, maybe it’s time to let him do it again….
