I’ve been watching this situation develop, and it looks like it’s more than just a rumor now. BleedBlueKentucky first broke the story that Joker Phillips and Rick Minter had a visit with a mystery recruit on Valentine’s Day (Monday). They have since disclosed the name of the recruit and it’s Brandon Maye from Clemson. Maye was a 3-star LB out of high school, and according to his Clemson profile he was ranked the #76 linebacker in the nation by Scout.com and the #29 player in Alabama.
Evidently Maye is transferring because Clemson has switched his position from Middle Linebacker to Weakside Linebacker. This could be good, because Kentucky’s biggest need at this time is an experienced Linebacker. The details are sketchy, but Maye might be able to play immediately if he can find a post-graduate program that UK offers and Clemson doesn’t. He red-shirted his freshman year and will have one year of eligibility left.
It is also being reported that Maye is visiting Kentucky this weekend and MSU on March 5th.
