UK and EKU Players Combine to Lead Drillers in Rout of Canton

The combined efforts of an EKU graduate (Al Holland, Jr.) and a former Wildcat (David Jones) led the East Kentucky Drillers to an easy 56-29 victory over the Canton Cougars in UIFL play this past Sunday.

Jones had his best game as a Driller, intercepting 2 passes and returning 1 for a touchdown. Jones could have had 3 interceptions but dropped one right in his hands. Jones, upset with himself after missing the easy opportunity, dropped to the turf and did pushups to the delight of the fans in attendance. The two interceptions give him four on the season. One of those interceptions came in the home opener against former UK teammate Jared Lorenzen.

Jones isn’t the only former UK player on the squad. Defensive Back Marcus McClinton was signed earlier this week. He joins Jones and Wide Receiver E.J. Adams. Adams and McClinton both saw playing time in the win on Sunday.

Holland did the damage for the offense, tossing 6 touchdowns in the game. That brings his total to 30 in 6 games. Holland was UIFL Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the season.

Eastern Kentucky jumped out to a dominating 42-7 half time lead.

The Drillers are now 3-3 on the season and play at home again this Saturday, April 9th at 7:30 against the Johnstown Generals.
