Former Cats Lead Drillers to First UIFL Shutout

The Eastern Kentucky Drillers, led by 3 former University of Kentucky defensive stars, shutout the Canton Cougars 45-0 in the Ultimate Indoor Football League.

[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]Marcus McClinton, David Jones, and newest addition Ellery Moore dominated the Canton Cougars with overpowering defense and a higher talent level than anyone on the field.

McClinton was the star of the game, intercepting 2 passes, while running one of those back for a touchdown.

McClinton also set the tone with his tackles and taking up for his teammates. In the first half, David Jones had his helmet ripped off by a Cougar, and McClinton wasn’t far behind to take up for his teammate.

Here is just one example of McClinton’s use of tackling fuel:

Ellery Moore, who was added this week to the Driller’s linebacking core, had 2 blocked kicks and 2 sacks.

The Drillers led 14-0 at the half, but the offense woke up in the 2nd half, blowing up behind former EKU quarterback Al Holland.

McClinton and Jones spoke about the first shutout in UIFL history and how tough their defense really is.

The Drillers improve to 5-5 and move into the 4th spot for the UIFL playoffs.

The Jared Lorenzen led Northern Kentucky River Monsters are currently the #1 seed and I would love to see the former Kentucky QB vs. Moore, McClinton, and Jones.

The Drillers travel to Ohio next Sunday to play these same Cougars in Canton, gametime is 4pm.
