The Eastern Kentucky Drillers travel to Northern Kentucky to battle the River Monsters and Jared Lorenzen.
The Drillers are looking forward to the matchup with Lorenzen, who leads the UIFL in passing and rushing touchdowns.
Last week’s media surge on the topic of Lorenzen being overweight hasn’t detoured the Drillers’ thoughts of how good the former NFL QB still is.
David Jones, Drillers’ defensive back and Kentucky alum, knows it is going to be a battle tonight.
“People don’t realize how good he really is,” said Jones about Lorenzen. “He was a backup of a Super Bowl team and he still has a great passion for playing football.”
The same things can be said about the Drillers defense, minus the Super Bowl Rings, who are led by Jones, Marcus McClinton, and recently added Ellery Moore.
“We have a veteran defense with a lot of passion,” said Jones. “Our offense and defense need to get up for this game.”
The River Monsters are 10-2 and are 1 game ahead of 2nd place Saginaw.
The Drillers are 7-5 and unless they win both remaining games with Northern Kentucky and Saginaw wins their remaining games, they will travel to Michigan for the 3rd time this season to play the Sting in the 1st round of the UIFL playoffs.
Jones talked about the schedule and the possibility of playing the River Monsters 3 times in a row.
“We look forward to playing teams again.” “It makes you have to tweak the playbook and makes it a hard task for both teams.”
Jones added, “Jared’s passion has been rubbing off on them(River Monsters), it should be a great game.”
The game is 7:30 tonight at the Bank of Kentucky Center on the campus of Northern Kentucky University.
