Highlands High Schools head coach Dale Mueller has done it again. Another former Super Bowl champion will join his staff at Highlands.
Earlier in the week, former Bengals receiver Cris Collinsworth announced on his website that he will join his son’s football team and coach the receiving core at Highlands.
“The pay wasn’t much (zero), but he promised I would have fun,” Collinsworth wrote. “What the heck, the NFL will probably miss at least half of their season anyway, (and) I agreed. Today is my first day… I love coaching. I coached many of these kids in the junior football league, and they always kept me entertained … Maybe the NFL will save me and actually play football, but if not, you will know where to find me on Friday nights.’’
Senior Austin Sheehan is also excited about adding Collinsworth to the staff.
“I’ve only had him as a coach for a week and I have learned so many new things,” Sheehan texted me, impressed. “He is a great coach and his knowledge of the game is unbelievable.”
When asked how it felt to have a former Super Bowl champion coaching him, Sheehan had this to say:
“It’s so much fun. Every day is a new experience for us.”
Highlands is definitely a program to watch next season, as they now sport a former champion as a coach, and a quarterback that isn’t bad himself in Patrick Towles. Anyone else feeling another state title?
Collinsworth is an Emmy Award winning color analyst for Sunday Night Football on NBC.
