The Eastern Kentucky Drillers have been known for their defense, and they proved it again last night as they held the Huntington offense scoreless on way to a 20-4 victory in the first round of the UIFL Playoffs.
[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]The win puts the Drillers in the 1st Annual Ultimate Bowl at #1 seeded Saginaw this Friday night at 7:30pm.
It also brought the Coal Cup back to Pikeville until next season.
The night was started off with Kentucky Football coach Joker Phillips doing the coin toss, while David Jones and Marcus McClinton both ran out with their Kentucky helmets on in the pregame introductions.

The Drillers offense had a rough start, as Al Holland was sacked twice in the endzone for 2 safeties and the Hammer led for much of the 1st half 4-0.
That changed as backup quarterback Daniel Eidson threw a 40 yard touchdown pass to take the halftime lead 7-4.
The score stayed the same through the 3rd quarter as the Drillers’ Ellery Moore dominated the line of scrimmage, sacking the Hammer’s quarterback 4 times.
Finally, with 7:56 left in the 4th, Eidson hooked up with Aric Evans for the Drillers’ 2nd touchdown making the score 13-4.
The Drillers played add on as former Wildcat EJ Adams ran in a touchdown with 5.2 seconds left to finish the scoring for both teams.
The Drillers defense was the MVP of the game, and Ellery Moore was it’s leader. McClinton also had a great game with 1 INT and great coverage, and as you can see above David Jones was laying the wood all game long.
All 3 former Wildcats were excited about the win, and spoke about treating the upcoming championship game just like a bowl game while at Kentucky.
