East Jessamine LB/DE Hoping To Return To Form That Caught Cats’ Eye

For the immediate area surrounding the Lexington area, Joker Phillips normally can have the pick of the athletes that he feels can play at the SEC level.

Back in 2010, Nicholasville (KY) East Jessamine LB/DE Seth Hunt was really starting to catch the eye of recruiters all across the area. And the Cats was one of those teams that came calling on the 6-foot-2, 245-pounder, who was showing that he could play out of the three-point stance on the defensive line, or roam around behind the front as a linebacker. His 4.7 forty speed was giving opposing offenses fits. And he led the Jaguars in sacks and tackles. He was even leading his team in touchdowns on the offense.

That changed everything. I didn’t hear from a lot of those schools for awhile. I wasn’t able to camp this summer up to this point.

“But I am supposed to get cleared to play this week. So, I am going to catch every camp I can until school starts. Ball State has invited me for a camp July 20th, and Tennessee has a late camp that they are inviting me to.”

Kentucky is still sending Hunt mail, but he said the interest has slacked. “I feel that Kentucky is now in a little bit of a holding pattern. I think they want to see how well I come back in my senior year from that injury. They haven’t given up on me just yet, but they do want to see what I do this year.”

“I like Kentucky,” Hunt said. “I hope I can get their interest again. They’re in my backyard. I’ll come back strong and hopefully things will take care of themselves. Joker seems like a great guy, and he’s really nice.”

Ever the optimist, Hunt remains positive about East Jessamine’s chances in his senior campaign. “Yeah, we lost a lot of starters from that team last year. But I still think we’ll come together and be a good team. You’ll still have to play hard to beat us.”
