Cats in top Three for Bama Safety

DeVonta Staples has had a slow recruitment up until now. Listed as a two-star on Scout.com, the Valley, Alabama safety comes in listed at 6-foot-2, 195-pounds. Having such range, Staples says it really helps on the football field.

“I have more range than the other players. It (height) really helps me get to the ball quicker and be able to make plays.”

Staples has already trimmed is list of suitors to three, which one of the three have not yet offered (Alabama).

“My top three is Kentucky, Illinois, and Alabama. I’m camping with Alabama (today) and will be taking a visit up to Illinois next Monday. I was going up to Kentucky, but I had a family emergency to attend. I will try to go up there this season. I will also be visiting UAB Wednesday.”

Staples still doesn’t want to rush his decision. He told me he is aiming for the middle of his senior season.

“I want to try to make it in the middle of my high school season. I will ask if I can take my officials, and if they don’t want me to I will not take them.”

What does Staples think of UK?

“The coaching staff is real cool. Coach (Steve) Pardue is from my area and I like that. I still want to find out more about how the school, academics, and other members of the coaching staff are.”

With that said, how well is Coach Pardue recruiting Staples?

“I know him well. He tells you the truth and doesn’t sugar coat anything. I think he’s very cool.”

With the recent success with offensive linemen, the Wildcats would love a pickup from a very rangy defender.
