Jeremy Harness Earns MVP at Top Gun Camp

Coming into the summer, Jeremy Harness (Class of 2012, John Hardin HS, Kent.) didn’t have too much buzz around him on the recruiting trail. However, June and July have paid dividends for the rising senior.

Earlier in June, Harness was named the MVP at the Football University’s camp in Lexington. As if that wasn’t enough, he also received an invite from FBU to attend the TOP GUN all-star camp in Williamsburg, Virginia this week.

“Getting invited to the Top Gun camp was quite an honor. I was really excited. Not everyone has a chance to participate in the camp,” he explained.

But the athlete’s hard work this summer seemed to pay off as he was named the Most Valuable Player yet again.

“Just getting invited to the camp was great, but being the MVP is something to really be proud of,” Harness began. “There were a ton of other good players there that could have got the award, but they chose me. I have to keep working though.”

With the stats Harness has posted the past two years, it is hard to believe he hasn’t became a household name in the state of Kentucky.

During his sophomore season at receiver, the 5-foot-9 speedster caught 49 passes for 788 yards and eight touchdowns; as a junior, he moved to running back and rushed for 1,526 yards and 20 touchdowns on 120 carries. He also caught 21 passes for 580 yards and three scores.

Harness says this has been a coming out party for him this summer.

“I’ve done really well this summer. I’ve been going to a lot of camps and getting ahead of some other players in the recruiting process, and I think it really helps me.”

He has attended camps at Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, and Murray State so far.

With his versatility on the offensive side of the ball, there have been questions as to where he will play in college. But Harness says he models two players when he plays the game.

“I think of myself as a slot receiver and doing things like Percy Harvin and Randall Cobb. I think I can also help in the return game with my speed.”

Harness’ last 40-yard-dash time was clocked at 4.46, so the kid can definitely move.

The John Hardin High School product recognizes Cobb as the reason why he is interested in going to Kentucky.

“I really like the offense Kentucky has in place. Randall Cobb is my favorite player and what he did just interests me.”

Harness currently has offers from Alcorn State, Eastern Kentucky, Murray State, and Tennessee-Martin. He is also receiving interest from Kentucky, Marshall, Tennessee, Western Kentucky, and LSU.

He also notes that UK and WKU as showing the most interest right now. When asked about what they do that other teams don’t, this is what Harness had to say:

“I email a lot of their coaches and they just stay in touch with me more right now.”

Harness has taken advantage of the opportunities at camps so far this summer. He says he is done camping now and is looking ahead to his senior season and preparing for a good year.

Keep an eye out for this guy come football season. He is definitely on the rise.
