I’ve read two articles in the past two days regarding UK’s receiving corps. The first was this from the Courier-Journal which basically reminded us we have one “veteran” receiver in LaRod King. Sure, Gene McCaskill has experience as well, but injury sidelined him most of last year. And Matt Roark, Aaron Boyd and Brian Adams have limited live game experience.
The second article was this one by Larry Vaught which hones in on DeMarco Robinson specifically, while reminding us that UK lost receivers #1 and #2 in Randall Cobb and Chris Matthews.
Am I concerned? No. Remember, Randall Cobb was a 2-star Athlete when he signed with UK and now he has a chance to start returning kickoffs for the reigning Super Bowl champs his rookie year. The talent level of Joker’s incoming freshmen is higher than in previous years. Rashad Cunningham is 6’ 4” with great hands and fast feet. DeMarco Robinson set the Georgia state record for yardage last year. Plus, considering those two, Daryl Collins was one of the players “making the most noise” according to Joker.
With QB Morgan Newton in his junior year now, I think he has the experience to consistently get the ball in the hands of his young receiving corps. They have the talent. If they get the opportunity, I have a feeling they’ll have the success.
