Happy Sunday, good people. Due to a fussier-than-usual toddler, a houseful of laundry, homework to be done, and the suckiest-assed wireless service a man could ask for (I’m looking at you, Windstream), I ran out of [STRIKE]the necessary nerves[/STRIKE] time to do the required research for the topic I really wanted to write about, which was the effect of phases of the moon on Kentucky’s performance in home games. Looks like Blue Moon had a lot to do with Mike Hartline’s play (*classless public intoxication joke*).

But I digress. I come to you today with a simple request, which I will get to in a moment. I come to you as a Cardinals fan. No, not those Cardinals. I tried rooting for those Cardinals in 5th grade, but when I got to middle school, I realized I’d never find another Louisville fan with my level of education. I’m taking about the [STRIKE]semi[/STRIKE]professional Cardinals, the ones in Arizona. Those fans among you who follow the Cats in the NFL probably know that Kentucky alum Alfonso Smith has been on the team the last couple years (Ricky Lumpkin also got picked up this year as an undrafted free agent). His time has been spent mostly on the practice squad, although the coaches like what they’ve seen thus far in the preseason. Why does this matter? Because Arizona’s 2nd round draft pick gimped himself up in a game Friday and is done for the year.

At the moment, Fonzo sits 3rd on the depth chart at RB, behind a return specialist and a guy made of paper mache. While preseason is only half-over, it’s decent odds that he gets a shot on the final roster this year, unless Arizona decides to sign a washed-up retread, as per their specialty. If anyone wants to get a glimpse of him, watch the last two preseason games. The first one is Saturday at 10pm, not sure when the replay will be.
I’d love to see Fonzo catch on and make some noise. We all saw flashes of brilliance out of him, and I don’t see anyone out there with much left to offer anyway; although Arizona will probably bring someone in after preseason cuts are made.
As for Ricky Lumpkin, he will be a practice squad player at best. Haven’t seen or heard much out of him after a couple games, but if he shows the team anything at all, he should stick around.
Now, if anyone wants to hop on board the Birdgang Express with me, we’d love to have you. The Bengals suck, the Cowboys are an annual disappointment, even Jesus hates the Patriots, so why not back a team with no expectations?
