Kentucky Tight End the Future of the Past

There was a time when Kentucky was Tight End U…

James Whalen was an All American when he caught 90 passes for 1,019 yards and 10 touchdowns in the 1999 season.

Move forward to 2003-07 and Jacob Tamme was stretching the field and a top target for Andre Woodson on their way to a Music City Bowl win in 2007.

Jordan Aumiller is now the tight end for the University of Kentucky, and just like Tamme, he is a Boyle County grad with high expectations in Joker’s offense.

Aumiller caught 18 balls last year for 193 yards and 1 touchdown and it sounds like Joker is expecting big things from the sophomore.

“Jordan Aumiller has been as consistent a player we have had, not only at the tight end position, but on the football team.”(1)

The tight end position was the biggest battle in camp, and Aumiller has impressed with his work ethic and consistency in practice.

Aumiller definitely has the confidence as he feels comfortable with any type of defender covering him, large or small.

“Either one, I’ll take it,” Aumiller said. “If you have a bigger, slower linebacker I can beat him down the field on a corner route. Against someone smaller, I can win a jump ball.”(2)

Aumiller might be just what Morgan Newton needs in the passing game to give him a sense of security under pressure.

What I am wondering is can Jordan Aumiller be the tight end that Kentucky fans have been used to?

Will the current tight end from Boyle County be as good as the last tight end from Boyle County?

Heck, I hope he is James Whalen……
