I’ve learned so far this football season that the breed of the Uk fan base is quite eclectic. You have the quiet fans who sit there silently, then after 3 quarters will leave if the team is losing, the loud fans that take every single play in the game personally, the fans that call themselves fans but don’t watch a lick of the game and sit and chat with their friends the whole time, or the fan that drinks so much before the game he wakes up the next day wondering if the team won or lost.
What kind of fan are you?
I would definately classify myself as the “loud” fan. If Kentucky doesn’t convert on 3rd down, for the next few seconds the loud fan completely gives up on the team. Then as the defense creates a turnover and gets the ball back, the loud fan has lost all memory of the last offensive set and their hope has returned. A loud fan likes to stand and cheer, sneers at those who tell them to sit down, and is probably known as the “annoying” fan in that section. I would venture to say 50% of the Kentucky fanbase is the “loud” fan.
The quiet fan likes to hold thier thoughts, observations and feelings about the game inside. The quiet fan doesn’t talk to his wife on the walk back to the car. The quiet fan listens to the post game show after a loss and suddenly explodes in the car about how awful the game was. Though in victory, the quiet fan does not gloat, they simply have a smile that says, “I told you we’d win.”
The chatters. These fans are probably the worst. These are the fans that went to the game because Susie at work’d first cousin’s son couldn’t go and is giving his tickets away for free. They don’t go to watch the game, they don’t even wear blue most of the time (see women that show up to games in high heels), all these “fans” want to do is sit there and chat or complain about what is going on around them. (Probably complaining about the loud fan)
The drunk fan is definately the most entertaining. This fan probably doesn’t show up to the game on time but when they arrive, are one of the most enthusiastic in the stands. This fan doesn’t know a first down from a field goal, but they do know when other fans cheer, it is time to get rowdy. Most likely this fan had a little too much fun at the tailgate (is there such a thing?) and will wake up the next day only remembering the last beer they bonged.
I’ve put myself out there and said I am the loud fan. I will pull for my team until the end, but it feels like a shot to the heart when they lose. What kind of fan are you BBN?
