The up-and-down team of the SEC. Led by the ‘ole ball coach in Steve Spurrier, the South Carolina Gamecocks will be taking on Kentucky led by a new starting quarterback in Connor Shaw. The mistake-prone Stephen Garcia has been removed from calling the signals for this weeks SEC East showdown. Shaw, who is a sophomore, has proven as much as his competition in practice, up-and-down. As both have shown, when they are good their good, when they are bad they are really bad. However, according to deep-threat Alshon Jeffery, the rest of the Gamecocks have all the trust in the world in Shaw.
Offense: One word: Marcus Lattimore. The sensational sophomore has already made his case in the Heisman race. Despite his 66 yard permorance last week against one of the worst defense’s in the country, the taltented sophomore still can be a game changer every week. However, I believe this is what the Wildcats can accomplish as well. As everyone saw last week, Auburn did a great job of sticking to their game plan in stopping the run and making Garcia beat them, which they accomplished very well. With that said, I believe Rick Minter and staff will come up with the same game plan to be effecient in stopping the Heisman hopeful.
Defense: There are no other words to describe the lack of productiveness in the Wildcats offense this season. Going up against one of the toughest defense last week, Kentucky has seen where they are on offense against the SEC. With no passing game, or a small amount of a run game, I believe the Wildcats need to come up with some trickery to move the ball down the field. But they will need to execute very quickly because lining up a shaky offensive line against Melivin Ingram will be tough, as he accounted for 3.5 sacks last week against the Tigers.
The Wildcats defense needs to stick to the game plan and make the inexperienced quarterback beat them. With no push on offense, the Wildcats will have to hope for some big plays come on either special teams or defense. My score prediction 17-7 Gamecocks.
