Joker Gets Much Needed Win

The Kentucky Wildcats and Joker Phillips earned a much needed win as the defense dominated and the running game was much the same in a 38-14 victory over Jacksonville State in Commonwealth Stadium today.

The Wildcat defense held JSU to 270 yards of total offense, the lowest since surrendering only 234 yards vs. Western Kentucky in the season opener.

Kentucky rushed for a season high 340 yards, and was the most for the Cats since Nov. 13, 2010.

Coshik Williams led the charge with 22 rushes for 148 yards and Morgan Newton rushed for a career-high 75 yards on 12 carries with one TD. Newton was 10-of-16 passing for 105 yards and two TDs

Junior WR La’Rod King caught five passes for 84 yards and two touchdowns. King now has 1,019 career receiving yards to become the 22nd player in school history to reach 1,000 receiving yards in his career.

I know a lot of fans are saying, “Well it was Jacksonville State,” but I didn’t know if the Cats would even win the game, let alone dominate it.

This is a huge win for Kentucky going into next week’s matchup with Mississippi State at home as maybe the attendance will be a little better.

The announced crowd of 54,098 is a complete sham, as there were barely 40,000 if you are being kind, and I am .

I have been one of Joker Phillips’ biggest critics, but there is nothing else this team could have done today vs. a team they should beat.
