Trevellous Cheek Expecting Offer from Kentucky Soon

It is very seldom that fans hear about a defensive back recruit that barely has any passes targeted to his receiver. One never hears about a corner that was targeted only 12 times in one season. (That is not a typo)

For Archer High School (Georgia) Trevellous Cheek, it is the tough reality he has had to deal with for the past year. While it was a compliment to his talent, he does think it has stunted his recruitment a little.

“My receiver was target 12 times last year, so it was hard to show off my coverage skills,” Cheek admitted. “But I deflected eight or nine passes of those twelve, and I got a lot of tackles.

Despite his lack of highlights, many schools have shown early interest in the 5-foot-10 cornerback. He currently holds one offer from California, and Kentucky, Louisville, Arkansas, Missouri, Tennessee, Clemson, UCF, and others are showing interest.

Cheek does have a few schools that are sticking out, though.

“I’ve always wanted to go out West to experience things out there, so I was really excited when my first offer came from Cal. But I also like Louisville and Kentucky. I really like Kentucky’s facilities.”

Cheek had the opportunity to take in Lexington during his Junior Day visit last weekend. He left with a positive experience.

“I really like the stadium and the academic program Kentucky has,” he explained. “I enjoyed speaking with the coaches, and they talked a lot about the education-side of things.”

Cheek thinks his next offer could come from Kentucky because of their consistent contact with him. David Turner has handled his recruitment thus far.

“I would say Kentucky and Cal are recruiting me the hardest. I speak with Coach [David] Turner weekly. We have a very good relationship, and it only gets better. He said he is looking forward to seeing me at a camp in the summer.

Because of the lack of game-action for Cheek, he will have to make statements during camps in the coming months. He has already started, as he made the prestigious Badger’s 7-on-7 team this weekend after showing off his exceptional coverage skills.

It is also worth noting Cheek has been invited to the VTO Elite camp on March 25th; between that, he will visit UCF for a junior day on March 24th and Clemson on April 14th.

Cheek does not have a set time for a decision, as he cited his recruitment as something he wanted to “be patient with and take time.” He does have some factors, though.

“I want to go to a school where I can trust the coaches and build a bond. The players are also important, and of course, a good education.”
