Spring Preview: Quarterbacks

[SIZE=3]The quarterback position is always going to be a barber shop topic, no matter what’s happening. Heading into spring practice, the Wildcats are still searching for who will take the lead role once spring is completed.

Who is in the lead race?

While many believe sophomore Maxwell Smith is in the drivers seat, rising senior Morgan Newton may have a different mind set. While he will be limited this spring, I believe it still can be a break out one for the up-and-down Wildcat. Physically he has no advantage. However, Newton needs to take advantage and get even better in the mental part of the game.

Being the senior can help the development of both Smith, and the fan favorite Patrick Towles. Despite not participating in spring practice, Towels still may be in contention for the chance at the starting role if neither can take advantage this spring.

Another name to watch for is Bookie Cobbins, a redshirt freshman who can bring a lot of versatility to the Cats offensive style. Running a 4.4 40 time will help create new packages and plays for the Wildcats to work with.

With a lot of young faces on offense, the quarterbacks will have to rely heavily on La’Rod King to be their go to target.
