Dear UK Freshman 1-23-2010

January 23, 2010
Dear UK Wildcat Freshman,

As I type this letter you are hard at work preparing to beat those pigs that we know as the Arkansas Razorbacks. You have been hard at work all year and your efforts show; just look what you have accomplished and where we stand. A few games early in the season seemed to be lost only for you to turn them into wins. You and your teammates persevered through a few last second shots, games that went to overtime and some hard fought games; namely the Battle of the Bluegrass that could have easily turned in to the Battle to Stay Alive. Through these times your fans have learned a lot about you and we can tell you have learned a lot about yourselves and the ever intensifying game of basketball.

Today fans are drooling at the thought that you will complete a major milestone in this year’s quest by bringing us back to the #1 ranking. We stand behind you and share with you the confidence that we have in you. Good luck and Go Big Blue! However, the real reason that I write this letter today isn’t to talk about this year; it’s to talk about next year. I wanted to share my thoughts with you not to try to persuade you in any specific direction but perhaps to just help bring myself to reality what is seemingly the inevitable. You are your own men and you will make the best decisions for you and like always I will stand behind your decision. All of this rolls into one thought, the next NBA draft.

It would be totally selfish of me or any other of your fans to ask you to stay at UK for at least one more year. It would be selfish because although I am sure you are living your childhood dreams, the college basketball game is only one stop to your final destination. You dreamed as a child, teenager and even now as young adults to play in the NBA, win a World Championship, play in the NBA All-Star game and last but not least make millions. We are all behind you in reaching your goals and your dreams becoming a reality. What makes us sad is that we will most likely only see you in UK uniforms for one year.

You have brought notoriety back to Kentucky Wildcats Basketball in just 18 games and you bring a tremendous amount of excitement in the days and hours leading to your next game. I think I speak for all UK fans when I say that we are behind you 100% if you do decide to leave UK and go to the NBA next year. Contradictorily, I think I speak for all fans when I say…..

Scott Z. and…
