Interestingly tonight’s game wasn’t a battle of the bigs that everyone thought it would be. The key to the game was going to be either the play from DeMarcus Cousins or Wayne Chism; whoever had the better game would decide which team left Rupp with the win. Cousins had 5 points and Chism had 12 points yet Kentucky still pulled out the win. This game was won (or lost) by the guards and in this position Kentucky dominated.

John Wall (24) and Eric Bledsoe (16) had a combined 40 points when it took three Tennessee guards, Hopson, Maze and Goins to equal that production. Bledsoe had a late run in the second half that provided Kentucky with some separation and ultimately led to the double-digit victory for the Cats. DeAndre Liggins added 7 points during 28 minutes of play but provided a lot of spark with his all out hustle.
Patrick Patterson was the only big to score in double figures with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Cousins was only 1 of 8 from the free throw line but had 12 rebounds to go with his 5 points. Although the play from the inside was dismal it should be promising to Wildcat fans to know that they can pull out a win during a tough game even when the production isn’t coming from the paint. This could be crucial during the SEC and NCAA Tournaments as most opponents will focus on shutting down the inside play.
