I was sitting around on Firefox looking at my twitter stream and saw Jody Demling was talking about UK Turkish recruit Enes Kanter. Here is an excerpt:
The 240-pound 17-year-old Kanter is considered the top basketball prospect in Turkey. He came to the U.S. last fall and played at Stoneridge Prep in Simi Valley, Calif. He was a member of the Under-16 and Under-18 Turkish National teams.
Kanter had originally committed to Washington but re-opened the process. He’s projected as the No. 15 pick in the ’11 draft by DraftExpress.com and he’s a guy that University of Kentucky fans will likely be hearing a lot about during the next few weeks.
West Coast expert Dinos Trigonis said after watching Kanter in the Fullcourt Press Spring League that he was a “bigger post version of (former North Carolina All-American) Tyler Hansbrough” and “a man playing with the boys at the high school level.”
Daniels said he’s not the typical European post player:
“Most of those guys are are guys that face-up and like to shoot jump shots,” Daniels said. “That’s not Enes Kanter. He’s a physically tough kid that loves to be on the inside to rebound and bang.”
I have heard several people say the reason Kanter de-committed from Washington was to go to Kentucky. The 2010 class is starting to get really interesting. The next couple of weeks should be very exciting, and not just for the play on the floor.
Here is a video on Kanter. Thank you Mr. Demling.
