Rupp Arena Got A Tech Upgrade For This Season

Take a look at the first phase of upgrades to Rupp Arena.

During the summer, Lexington Center got approved to do a $15 million technology upgrade to Lexington’s most recognized landmark, Rupp Arena.

The first part was finished not long ago with the installation of a LED ribbon board around the second tier of the arena. This will allow the arena to sell more advertising and encourage fan interaction during events.

Bill Owen, CEO of the Lexington Center Corp had this to say about the upgrades.

“It’s an exciting time to be at Lexington Center and Rupp Arena. It’s truly going to be a new level of fan experience once we get it all done.”

Along with the ribbon board, Lexington Center is also installing 4 new LED screens in each corner of the arena. These will replace the existing static screens and be installed one at a time starting November 9th, and all be finished by mid-December.

Other upgrades to be completed over the next 2 years are:

There will be a new center-hung scoreboard with LED screens that will replace “Big Bertha,” expected to be installed by the 2016-17 basketball season.

And finally a WiFi upgrade in the arena. This will also be installed by the start of the 2016-17 basketball season.
