Mitch Barnhart spoke to a rotary club earlier in the week where he discuss the “aging Rupp Arena”. Rupp will get a $15M upgrade, but there’s still uncertainty around the home of Kentucky Basketball.
WLEX Reported:
One of the more interesting topics that Barnhart addressed was about the aging Rupp Arena. There are some changes taking place at Rupp Arena but Barnhart says more needs to be done and soon. “I think we’ve got to get to a spot where we know what the definition of that looks like going forward. And we’ve got to do it soon. I think it’s caused enough angst among–it’s too much conversation,” said Barnhart. “We’ve got to get to a spot where we move on and get this thing figured out. There’s certain things that are important to us going forward that a part of–as I talked and the question was asked earlier, is–we’ve got to protect the next two to three generations of what we’re trying to do for Kentucky basketball. It’s not a one year decision. It’s not a three year decision. It’s a 15 to 20 to 25 year decision. Long after I’m gone. So those are the things that we’re obligated as the stewards of the basketball program to protect and make sure we look down the road.”
