If you didn’t listen to the ESPNU podcast where John Calipari spoke to Seth Greeberg, you probably missed the discussion of how long the Hall of Famer possibly will stay in Lexington to coach the Wildcats.
It sounded like Calipari’s son Brad could keep him around a while.
“First of all, my wife has already told me if he (Brad) decides to come, ‘you’re not leaving,’ so that would mean I’m here five more years. If I’m here five more years, why not stay ’til 70, why not sign a new contract and I’ll be 70 when I leave. Seems like everyone coaches until 70, I was thinking 60, but maybe I’ll coach until 72, maybe 73,” Calipari said. “If he comes and he wants to walk on, to be able to spend four years with my son and the ups and downs of this? The only thing is he likes to talk back, you can’t do that when you’re playing for me.”

In a recent Bleacher Report article, Brad would like to get to a college on his own merit.
“I want to play collegiately and then overseas,” Calipari said. “I wouldn’t mind playing for my dad, but I don’t want it to be just handed to me. It’s just pride, really. I don’t want people to think that. I’ve worked so hard to get where I’m at. I want people to know that I’m not getting stuff just handed to me.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if little Calipari ended up in blue, would you?
