According to the “Starkville Daily News” in Starkville Mississippi, Arnett Moultrie may not be playing college basketball at Mississippi State (or anywhere else) next season. Moultrie would have been able to play thanks to a hardship waiver allowing him to play if his new school is significantly closer to his sick relative (in Memphis) than his old school (hello Lexington!!). However, an added line to the release contract from UTEP prevents him from gaining this waiver, forcing him to sit out a season.

[QUOTE]The Starkville Daily News has learned the only addition to the Memphis native’s release contract written up by UTEP officials was a line saying he could not immediately apply for a waiver to the mandated one-year period he must sit out according to NCAA transfer guidelines.
Moultrie’s transfer situation evidently includes the need to be closer to a medically-ill relative in the Memphis area and therefore could be eligible for a hardship waiver allowing him to not have to sit 2010-11 season if the institution is closer to the relative than his former school.
According to the source, Mississippi State attempted and would have preferred to get Moultrie registered for summer courses but were unable to sign him before the university deadline to sign up for classes. According to numerous reports MSU is still recruiting for Moultrie’s playing services against the likes of Kentucky, Texas and Arkansas.

i originally saw this on allkyhoops.com and was outraged at it. I cant believe a school would stop a recruit from playing the game he loves because he wants to be closer to a sick relative. Especially since the school’s he is considering (Kentucky, Mississippi state, Texas, and Arkansas), with the exception of Texas, do not under normal circumstances usually play UTEP in the regular season.
