Craig Witherspoon, The Superintendent of Birmingham Schools, met with the Alabama High School Athletic Association on Monday. After his meeting, he stated that there was enough information for his office to conduct an investigation over Bledsoe’s eligibility.
It seems they will be going through grade books to verify there is evidence that supports Bledsoe’s grades. Keep in mind that the AHSAA eligibility requirements differ from the NCAA. The AHSAA requires a 2.0 grade point average across all activities (art, wight lifting, etc..). The NCAA requires a 2.5GPA across 16 core classes and a combined ACT score of 68.

[QUOTE]”At this point, I think you’d have to consider it to be an investigation of an investigation,” Witherspoon said, noting he believed Bledsoe’s eligibility was probed last year. “What I am going to be doing is re-evaluating or assessing what took place to ensure from our perspective the requirements and procedures set forth by the association were indeed followed.”
“It is going to be going through documents and records,” Witherspoon said. “More so than interviews with individuals and that type of thing. … The piece that we will be focused on will be grades and how that relates to AHSAA eligibility. We want to make sure there is supporting documentation for his grades and making sure all the pieces line up.”

This investigation could turn up nothing or it could bring forward evidence that Bledsoe was ineligible. If that happens, the NCAA would more than likely become involved.
