My Look at the Draft

This Thursday’s NBA Draft is the most anticipated draft in Kentucky history. I really can’t wait till the draft is over. The mainstream media dissects certain topics to death, and the NBA draft is at the top of the list. There are different rumors everyday, and all you have to do is watch twitter to know that. I have some thoughts about each Kentucky player’s draft status and I thought I would throw my opinion out there as well.

1. John Wall- This is an automatic slam dunk pick. There is no question who the best player in the draft is and it is incredible that Wall will be the first Kentucky player ever selected first. Wall wants to be the best, and he is a very classy kid who has embattled a tough childhood to get where he is today. Very high character and as every one knows is an absolute stud.

2. DeMarcus Cousins- I am really getting tired of the negative pile up on Boogie. DeMarcus has a lot of passion, plain and simple. I love how Coach Cal talks about every one lying trying to get their guy to rise in the lottery, and DeMarcus is taking the blunt end of it right now. DeMarcus is the most NBA ready player in the draft. He has the body, the shot, and the agility for a big man that can be an instant producer for any NBA team. The only thing I worry about is his weight. I really think when a NBA team drafts him, they will have someone stay right on DeMarcus, just as Coach Cal did.

3. Patrick Patterson- Patterson will be a 20 year pro who will do whatever he can do to make his team better. He will also be a great teammate you can go to war with every night. His maturity is his biggest positive, and his improved outside game has GMs very intrigued with him. Wherever Patterson gets selected, he will become an excellent member of a franchise, both on and off the court.

4. Daniel Orton- If I was to question anyone’s maturity in the draft it would be Daniel Orton. Orton’s demeanor during certain games throughout the season really rubbed me the wrong way. He also didn’t handle a couple situations very well after the season. I think it would be alot easier to say the things they say about Cousins and direct them towards Orton. The positives about Orton is he has a lot of untapped skill and his future far outweighs his past. He really hasn’t played a whole lot over the last couple of years, but the NBA is really something different than basketball. Orton will go in the first round, but I think he is a lot bigger gamble then DeMarcus Cousins.

5. Eric Bledsoe- The most low key Kentucky player on the draft board who will probably still be picked around #20.. I believe Bledsoe will be a good pro, but I wonder if he can be a great point guard in the League. Bledsoe will have to make a lot of strides on his decision making on the floor. He is a good shooter, but not playing the point consistently could make his transition a little bit longer than the other Cats.

I know I am a fan just like everyone else, but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents on the NBA Draft. As I have said before, i can’t wait till this thing is over. I want to talk about something else!!
