Orton Continues Consistent Summer Play

Daniel Orton is putting on a show in the NBA Summer League. I didn’t say it was a very good show. Orton’s stat line is scary, as scary as Orton is out of shape. Here is Orton’s stat line today vs. Utah.

17 minutes
0-6 FG
2-4 FT
-11 +/-
2 rebounds
1 assist
2 fouls
1 turnover
1 block

I have come to the conclusion that the NBA talent level is really, really down. Orton’s 2-game total is 1-for-14. Averaging 2.5 pts and 2.5 rebounds. In one stretch Orton shot 2 air balls in a row, and was blocked on a 12 foot jumper. It is so suprising to me that Orton can be so out of shape after missing classes in the spring to supposedly get into shape. Orton has a long way to go, and for his sake this dismal summer showing hopefully isn’t an early indication of his next couple of years in the league.
