Congratulations to John Wall for winning the Best College Male Athlete ESPY Award!
We all know that John Wall can make great decisions on the court. The question always seems to be whether the top picks in the NBA draft can make the right decisions off the court and in this case we give John Wall an A. Nominated for 2 ESPY awards, John Wall declined the invitation to appear in Los Angeles tonight in order to stay in Las Vegas and continue working with his Summer League team.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
The story which was originally reported in the Washington Post states that the focus is on basketball.
Dwon Clifton, another adviser and co-agent for Wall, said some unexpected scheduling conflicts, including a meeting for NBA rookies, would’ve forced Wall to scramble to make a difficult and quick turnaround. Basketball “is most important this week and we didn’t want to disrupt the focus on that,” Dwon Clifton wrote in a text message on Wednesday.
I like this story and like the decision even more. It shows a great deal of maturity from a 19 year old to miss the opportunity to receive an award on the national stage to focus on his game.
