Adonis Thomas, a Memphis native, has been turning heads in Las Vegas this week. Coach Calipari also has Coach Antigua keeping a close eye on Thomas this Summer. Jody Demling got a chance to talk to the Under 17 Gold medal winner while in Vegas:

A big-time athlete, the 6-foot-6, 190-pound Thomas has a lot of major colleges – including the University of Kentucky – tracking his progress with the Memphis Magic.

UK coach John Calipari and assistant Orlando Antigua have been watching Thomas, along with coaches from North Carolina, Memphis, Tennessee, Ohio State, Florida, Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas, UCLA and Duke. Calipari recently made a call on Thomas.

“I’m still wide open but I want to start narrowing it down soon,” Thomas said. “There are still a lot of schools calling and showing interest. I’m just trying to focus on winning now.”

Thomas said he has a relationship with Calipari from his days in Memphis and noted his father “has always been a fan of his and I love his style. He puts players in the league.”

There should be a lot of drama to come with the 2011 class, and a host of names that all the Big Blue faithful will get to know over the next year. Have fun and enjoy the ride.
