Some think that Shabazz Muhammad was the breakout player of the summer. Muhammad is a 6’6″ junior from Las Vegas who is now being recruited by the biggest programs in college basketball, including the Kentucky Wildcats. Other listed include North Carolina and Duke. On top of being a rising star, Shabazz is a very humble young man who seems to be enjoying the early days of fame.

The downtime at the Elite 24 was real cool, too. We basically just hung out in our rooms and we got to play against John Wall and Eric Bledsoe in Madden. I’ve got to give it to John, he wasn’t losing in Madden. He was definitely doing his thing in that.
Shabazz is writing a personal diary on highschoolhoop.com to give fans a glimpse into his personal life as well as his recruitment.
Although he will be attending the UNC version of Midnight Madness, Muhammad says that he watched Big Blue’s Midnight Madness on the television last year. He also says that Kentucky has been to his school to watch him since the contact period has opened.
The shooting guard is ranked 1 for his position and 3 nationally by Rivals. Kentucky is listed but is also the only schools listed as having to yet make an offer. Scout also lists him 1 and 3 respectfully but they do not list Kentucky as a school of interest.
We’ve talked about Shabazz a lot on Nation of Blue and expect to hear more about him in the future as he continues to develop. We all know Cal goes after the best and if he can keep up his momentum, he’ll certainly remain a topped ranked recruit in 2012.
Here are a couple of nice videos for you to check this player out for yourself. He looks real to me!
