Kentucky Coach Orlando Antigua is busy promoting Kentucky basketball, and this time it’s with 2011 recruit Trevor Lacey.
Shocking as it may be, Auburn, Alabama, Marquette and Mississippi also visited Lacey this month. I thought when Calipari made a decision to go after a prospect, everyone else just quit. Guess, like my UK – FL pick, I was wrong.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]
Lacey, a 6-3, 190lb Shooting guard out of Butler High in Huntsville, Alabama, is ranked 34th overall and the 7th best shooting guard of the 2011 Class by Rivals.com.
Lacey has cut his list down to five schools but says he’s going to wait until next week to announce.
When asked whether UK is among his favorites, Lacey said, “I don’t have a favorite, but they’re in my tops.”
“Yeah, they’re going to get a guard,” Lacey said. “It could be something between me and Wroten. I guess that’s what it’s going to boil down to. “… I guess that’s what the reports said on the websites and stuff. When I was talking to (Antigua), he was talking more about me. He wasn’t bringing Tony’s name up or anything.”
When asked whether he thinks Teague, Gilchrist, Davis and Wiltjer are players he thinks he’d enjoy playing with, Lacey said, “Yes, sir. Most definitely.”
According to Rivals, Lacey currently holds scholarship offers from 12 schools including Kentucky. Trevor said he plans on waiting until Spring to finalize his pick stating he wants to wait and see how UK’s roster shakes out this season.
The scholarship outlook for 2011 is still questionable. Harrellson is the lone Senior. The Cats currently have two scholarships open, depending on the Darnell Dodson situation. If Calipari takes Polson’s scholarship back, then he could have four guaranteed. That takes care of the four currently committed.
But everyone expects at least three more to become available as most expect Knight, Kanter and Jones all to be first round 2011 NBA Draft Choices.
That would leave Coach Calipari and the Cats with seven scholarships, and depending who is left on the 2011 Big Board, the opportunity to once again stack the deck beyond anyone’s wildest imagination.
