Dick and Enes

What does Dick and Enes have in common? Both think the NCAA should make a ruling already. The question of Enes Kanter’s eligibility has been dragging on and we are now at the point that most people thought that a ruling would have been made. On September 7th, Coach Cal thought that it would be 10-14 days. Others thought that a ruling would be made by October and that now seems highly unlikely.[PRBREAK][/PRBREAK]

At the end of the day, we’re all waiting for the NCAA clearinghouse. Dick Vitale agrees with Kentucky fans for a change, even if he is talking about a bigger picture. Vitale thinks that the NCAA should expedite investigations:
Now we have the Kentucky issue over Enes Kanter’s eligibility. When he played in Turkey, was he given expense money or dollars as a pro athlete? I understand that due process means spending time analyzing details and information in the case. But get it done. In fairness to the student-athlete involved as well as the institution, the NCAA has to make a ruling in a reasonable amount of time.

Procrastinating is not the right way to handle a situation in any business.
Perhaps the NCAA should set deadlines on eligibility rulings for the upcoming sports season. If the clearinghouse doesn’t make a ruling on a case by October X, then the athlete would be ineligible for the season. Although such a rule could be limiting in ways, it could also put internal and external pressure on the NCAA to move these processes along. The flip side is due to delays, an athlete who may otherwise be eligible is out for a season because the NCAA drug their feet.

I guess it doesn’t really matter what DickieV suggests or what fans want. The Kanter situation is proof that we are all at the mercy of the NCAA. While we sit anxiously and await a ruling we’ll continue to complain about the process. At the end of the day, the only thing that matter is that they FREE ENES! If they do, UK fans will be satisfied. If they rule him ineligible, the wrath of BIG BLUE NATION will be unleashed.
